Call me a madman, but the only significant difference I can see is the
color of her hair and the shading on her head, and to be honest, I
prefer the POV-Ray version.

Also, GEEZ, if you must be lossless, use PNG or something next time! I
thought my modem was gonna have a stroke! X_x

As I saw your pictures, I said to myself "it's the ambient light".. But I
assume you DO know that POV's ambient light is 0.1 by default? It could also
be a matter of assumed_gamma in global_settings.. You don't mention this in
your post.. Have you taken it into mind?

I attached the difference between the POV-Ray version and the PolyRay version. The
biggest difference between them seems to be that the used PolyRay camera had a wider
viewing angle than the POV-Ray camera.
And for the differences in the colors: maybe if you increase the brilliance and
decrease
the ambient values of the POV-Ray version, it'll be more like the PolyRay version...

I felt that the polyray image was "fuzzier" than the povray one and the
difference bears that out; the differences are at the boundaries/borders.
What anti-aliasing settings were used in both? Does it make a difference?

Obviously there is a color difference between the two... but to my naked
eye, I can't see the difference between the 6114 colors vs the 6787 colors.
Maybe it's just me...

As for the image of the difference between the two...looks kinda cool to me!

Over 800K thanks.

this "differences" image does miss the color diffs- the ratios in
the red are different.

yeah I know ambient is 0.1 in POV and I took some pains to double
check as many identical numbers existed in the textures as
possible.

I can't explain the camera difference at all- the numbers ARE
exactly the same- difference in how the raytracers interpret that
I guess... odd...

thanks for the interesting image here though- some good
information.

Color wise you prefered it? Geometry wise too though? I'm
wondering why POV was so snippy about the bezier patches- both
images are exports in that area from MORAY...

Agh, I didn't think about PNG as a possible- and having DSL has
spoiled me... but I DID warn you in the header! :oO

Hm... the aliasing shouldn't have gone as far as the differences
image said it did... should it? I think the "differences" image
needs to be defined, differences in colors? intensities?
saturation? what?

yeah that would make a difference for edges between colors, but
no- the differences are NOT all at the boundaries, the R/G ratio
to her ENTIRE hair is about a constant 4 vs. 3, that is a large
difference in interpreting what the color fo red ought to look
like between raytracers.
