howdy all,
I made a rotational sweep in Moray, and the wood grain seems to follow the
normals just fine, but the light doesn't, is there something I'm not doing?
thanx,
DC

That does not seem to be a lathe object but a mesh, maybe check the POV
code.
It's a perfectly normal appearance for meshes, see:

thanx,
with all that in mind, is it unethical to make 2 pictures and cut 'n paste
the parts that are traced with the shadowless method into the other?

I don't think that's necessary, just have one instance of the object with
no_shadow and one with no_image.

I just tested the idea and oops, It doesn't look like it will work anyway.
either way, some parts that should be shadowed aren't. it looks like I'll
just have to keep this in mind when I position certain things. I've noticed
too that the shadow's edge has less light then the ambience of the material.
is there a setting for this?
thanx again,
DC

I can do the no shadow thing, but can't find where to do the no image.
thanx again,

no_image is only available in megapov/Povray 3.5

I've figured out an acceptable solution:
crank up the wireframe resolution on the parts that need it and presto!
