Sorry, my newsreader did not insert attachment...

This image has it starting point long time ago. At that time I had
problems with water and surface of wood. Now, I promise, it looks much
better! Or am I wrong?
In scene were only two external files used: one for sign and one for
the cloud.
In scene is only one cloud, but it should be few more. Cloud is made with
df3, so rendering lasted 30 min. I have no idea yet how to boost render
time with it, so I can can make more clouds, what would look much better.
With styling of cloud I am not happy, because I not yet know how
programmingly do it better.
Building site is sky_sphere, too. In scene are edges from one color to
other and they should become soft or floting.
Besides this it is a good starting point to do scene more fine...

comments, critics and ideas are welcome.

It looks very nice. I really like the water, and you have good models for
the chair and for the bottles. Would it be possible to add foam perhaps
around the bottles, chair, shoreline?

As for the cloud, a cloud like that, to my mind, tends to be more
transparent at least at the edges. Clouds that fully block the blue of the
sky are generally the big kinds with flat bottoms. This however is a hard
problem and even the best POVers have difficulty with it, as I understand.
If you wanted you could try MakeCloud by Gilles Tran:
http://www.oyonale.com/ressources/english/sources13.htm
or Jaime Vives Piqueres' "stacked sky":
http://www.ignorancia.org/en/index.php?page=Stacked_Planes

Of course making it in your own fashion might be more satisfying, but you
can take a look at how others have done it.

The only other criticism I have is the light- on a day like that, with
little clouds and sharp shadows, it seems like the light at the beach
should be much brighter and more contrasted with the shadows. This however
is very subjective.

Good image, and good luck!

-Stefan

I believe it is possible. Wich technique should I use? For isosurfaces my
knowledge in mathematics is too bad.

This was my starting point. I did it his way: creating B/W-TGAs,
converting them to df3, using it in POV-code.
Seems my attempt failed...

It is very bright. If it were brighter someone would not see the grain.
IMO.

Hmmm, mine is none too good either. Despite my recommendation I have no idea
how to do it. If you could find where in the x-z plane the chairs and bottle
intersected the water, you could trace() foam-object(s) onto the sea? Maybe
harder than the result is worth...

No, no, it didn't fail, I just think perhaps they could be more transparent.
The shape itself is quite good.

Well, like I said, it is very subjective.

Nice image. I think the items floating in the water perhaps look a bit
too clean, but other than that...

The wood texture is nice, but the cylinders are too perfect so they slightly
break the illusion. You might be able to fake a more detailed shape using a
normal, but more likely it would have to be isosurfaces which I can
understand is not a trivial thing to do!

The water looks good, though it looks opaque, even though I can see through
it. I'd guess that either the reflection is too strong and/or your pigment
is not totally transparent (transmit 1). I generally use reflection { 0, 1
fresnel } and pigment { rgbt 1 }, and fade_colour for the tint of the water.
Of course you might already be doing this and the effect could just be an
optical illusion, it happens sometimes.

About your clouds, what are your media parameters?
The default method is 3, it works best with only 1 intarval and realy get bogged
down when using multiples intervals.
If you want 100 samples, intervals 1 samples 100 is way faster than intervals 10
samples 10.

I don't think you should obsess about the cloud. I think it is fine.
The real work, as has already been mentioned, is with the regularity of
the logs. Only machined logs would be so perfect. Next you need to add
all the various seaside grunge. The stonework on the water's edge could
no be so sparkly clean unless it were laid the day before.

Oh, I meant to say, I like the bright strong colors of the scene and the
overall color harmony, composition, and camera angle is great!
