The wood texture is nice, but the cylinders are too perfect so they slightly
break the illusion. You might be able to fake a more detailed shape using a
normal, but more likely it would have to be isosurfaces which I can
understand is not a trivial thing to do!
The water looks good, though it looks opaque, even though I can see through
it. I'd guess that either the reflection is too strong and/or your pigment
is not totally transparent (transmit 1). I generally use reflection { 0, 1
fresnel } and pigment { rgbt 1 }, and fade_colour for the tint of the water.
Of course you might already be doing this and the effect could just be an
optical illusion, it happens sometimes.
