is this supposed to be an optical illusion?? the vertical support in the
rear looks funny. it crosses the front top horizontal support.

I noticed that too but I wasn't going to say anything. Nice textures and
lighting though :-)

I notice a couple of those... I'd be curious to see the code and how that
happened.

The first time i saw your (excellent) work, i got that Escher feeling
ringing a bell somewhere, but i coudn't remember what was it.
So, i finally found it.
IRTC, 1998-10-31 , Water Round, the pic waterfa1.jpg (2nd Place, iirc)
I think Sascha used a trick which is quite similar to yours, perhaps you'd
be interested in this link:
For Sascha's description

the image

Escher original (found it by accident in Google, while searchig for
waterfa1.jpg)

And congratulations for the image :-)
It's kinda tricky to manage those illusions, ahn?

I see. Similar yet opposite. He used a plane perpendicular to the
camera while I used a plane that intersects with the camera.
(Perspective!) I also recall seeing this image before and rendering it
a couple of times myself. Never took the time to figure out exactly
what he did though. I also recall seeing an animation of this once
where a perspective camera with a narrow angle slowly zoomed in until
it was a normal perspective. Unfortunately, I have absolutely no idea
where I saw that. Possibly about 2000 messages back in p.b.a? I'll
take a look.

Thanks. Illusions are always fun to do in pov. Drawing is one thing
but designing and programming them is always a challenge.

Actually, it was another irtc entry:
"That's Impossible" (h20fall.mpg) by Joe Wise. It won 2nd Place in the "Inner
Workings" round:
