I was thinking of doing a kind of lighthouse effect with this as the diamond
came into view, but wouldn't know how to do that, or whether it would spoil
it or not.

    Thoughts?

I think it looks very nice, without adding any special effects.

It took a few minutes to explain to my SO why I can't buy it for her.

IMHO it would look better -with- a velvet cushion and -without- the green
background and black reflections.

Thank you! It was just a thought that came to mind as it actually looks
like a lighthouse in the way that it turns. After some thought, I'd guess
that a cone and some media would be suitable, but only if it's very faint.

Your lady liked the design? That's cool. :o) Yes, that actual stone
would probably be a 1 carat diamond... expensive. ;)

Thanks. I'll be playing with that idea, but with a different design. (And
hopefully, a different angle).

Nice work. Motion really helps to emphasize the optical properties of a
high IOR object such as a diamond. I agree with "Leef_Me" that the no
"special effects" route is best. Perhaps a slightly higher camera position
could diminish the "flattened" look that a head on view can produce. Also,
one might be able to obtain the "feel" of looking at a small object close-up
by moving the camera in closer and widening the angle. (Since I haven't
actually viewed results, these suggestions are, of course, just flying
guesses.) I'm looking forward to seeing the next step.

-Best Regards,
Mike C.

Maybe add some dispertion? Also, the use of photons, some surface for them to
show up against, and possibly some slight media.
