Seeded because it's using random numbers, vain because it uses a photo of
me.
Not something a person should render over and over again too much, a picture
of themselves. Gets a little strange.
I was wanting to try what I have seen in a television commercial where
flowers bloom out and form the picture. Used MegaPov 'trace' to find the
positions, not hf_height_at, hoping to do more with that I hope. I have a
long way to go before I get there. Figured I'd make a animation of one of
my nieces when I find a good photograph of her.
Well, have a look if you will please, just don't loop it for too long. :-)

Needs a lot more and smaller flowers. Maybe drop the pixel count in the
image map until each flower gets one color. Then each flower should grow at
a slightly different rate and a different height.
Done really well it would leave your neice thinking your were the
ultimate hero.

Hmmm, possibly by using eval_pigment I could try that. Just that I haven't
really used it to know about adding it in. I already had done another of
these with more of a blooming flowers look, starting closed and opening; 600
is the count but it sure doesn't look it. Also random sizes too. The file
is about 1.5 MB though.
A varying growth rate would be good too.
I was thinking about not using the image mapped to the HF so that the
flowers do all the work, haven't tried it yet.

Yeah, I would really do this if I were you (and had the patience to work
it out). Have the green flowers grow out of grass then back out in time to
see them bloom into her picture.

I would suggest many many smaller flowers that perhaps curve upwards a
little more, and perhaps with out the HF below the flower being visible -
only on the petals

How about a picture of someone else too? For now I'm using a sample photo
from some scanner software.
File size is over the limit for here, being 860KB, so it is at:
http://webpages.charter.net/omniverse/flwrgirltrace.mpg
The flowers start out as buds, although so small that might not be obvious,
then they flatten out. Needs stems added, and more height variation too
except shadows are a problem.

How about varying the style of the flower according to the picture too.
You could also try making the flowers a 'wave' moving across the picture.

That would be good, yes, if I can work with eval_pigment okay anyhow. I
started thinking about rotating the flowers around toward the light, moving
it around instead of the moving the camera, but I'd be going off on a
tangent from what I intended to start with.
I keep forgetting to how the midway point has a glitch of scale change or
camera shift or something. Haven't tracked it down yet, the flowers stop
being placed at >0.5 (clock halfway point) or rather are placed from 0 to
<=0.5.
Wasn't concerned with that before so much but now I'm not sure what's
causing it.

This looks nice. If I could make a couple of suggestions they would be:
- Try it without the large scale motion of the plane (or the camera,
whichever you are doing). I find this a bit headache-inducing and it also
masks any subtleties in the flower arrangement or motion. Also your movie
size may be reduced if you keep the camera/plane relatively still... and
this would imply more frames and more detail within the same file size.
- Play with the flowers a bit more. Try the other suggestions concerning
waves, height, timing, etc. I like what you have done with the green
background and the bright petals, but you can keep going.
- For bonus points you might be able to figure out how to alternate between
two images. If a wind were to flip over each petal in turn and reveal a
different picture on the underside you would have the basis for looping your
movie. Or maybe I am just getting carried away here :-)
Anyway it looks great so far. Looking forward to the evolution.
