  Compilation problem. (Message 1 to 10 of 10)
From: Yansen
Subject: Compilation problem.

Message: <web.4adcd4ac80bbb61a1d315cac0@news.povray.org>
Hello.

I configure and "install" 3.6.1 on some machine without problems (4x AMD Opteron
64 Shanghai - 16 cores in total, 64GB RAM) running linux:

Linux version 2.6.18-164.el5 (moc### [at] builder10centosorg) (gcc version 4.1.2
20080704 (Red Hat 4.1.2-46))

I got no administrator privileges. After that "success" i try to compile Povray
3.7.0 beta 34 becouse I wish to use more than 1 CPU at a time :-) I use command:

../configure --prefix=/home/yansen/povray34 COMPILED_BY="yansen"

So here is what I got:

As I notice in previous post I can compile and run povray 3.6 without any
problem. I also can compile my own programs with g++ command - so i think: yes.

	What's the output of ldconfig -p | grep stdc++ on your system?

Yes I can see that g++ is there but the linker can't find the standard c++
library (or so it seems) so I would check if g++ is installed OK... sadly
I'm no linux expert (I wish I was!) but you learn a lot by trying to figure
stuff like this out... at least I do. Sorry I can't help you better.

Output is:

-bash: ldconfig: command not found

It's probably in /sbin, which is not always in the PATH. Try
/sbin/ldconfig -p | grep stdc++

Thx - now it work. Output is:

libstdc++.so.6 (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib64/libstdc++.so.6
libstdc++.so.6 (libc6) => /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6
libstdc++.so.5 (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib64/libstdc++.so.5
libstdc++.so.5 (libc6) => /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5
libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3 (libc6) => /usr/lib/libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3

Best regards

I guess this is more an issue for some Linux GNU compiler suite support
forum; it seems your installation of the compiler is bogus: The linker
cannot locate the stdc++ library, although it is in some standard
location; at this stage, the ./configure script does nothing
extraordinary, it just submits a small plain vanilla C++ program to be
compiled, so I can't possibly see how POV-Ray could be doing anything
wrong here.

You might try setting an environment variable
"LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib64:/usr/lib" (make sure to export it) before
calling ./configure, but that would just be a workaround. Note that the
same environment variable may subsequently also be required when running
"make", and maybe even when running the compiled POV-Ray binary (I know
too little of Linux linking issues to say for sure).
