Just installed the latest beta ( mainly to see if the problems I'm having with
3.6 under Vista would go away).
One thing I see, and this maybe a known issue, or I may be doing wrong, is that
the colors of rendered images are different in 3.7 vs. 3.6.
I noticed it when running an animation that has the following image related INI
file settings:
Width=800
Height=600
Antialias=On
Antialias_Threshold=0.3
Jitter=off
Output_File_Type=N
Bits_Per_Color=16
The PNG image out of 3.7 is a lot paler then the same image made in 3.6..

That might be related to gamma correction issues, see
the changes listed at http://www.povray.org/beta/

Are you sure you have both the 3.7 and 3.6 gamma settings right? (Note that they
use different mechanisms to specify the settings)

I think it must have been the default values, as I did not specify anything in
the ini/scene file, so I would have expected the colors to be the same.
Don't you think that if default values give different colors, there is a serious
backward compatibility problem?

No, I don't think so. Different effects of default settings *may* be considered
a backward compatibility problem indeed, but I don't think they necessarily
qualitfy as a *serious* one. The new defaults may make more sense after all, so
sticking to the old behaviour for all eternity may be not a prudent thing to do.
Are you sure you added a "#version 3.6" directive to your scene file? If not,
there's no reason whatsoever to complain about different effects of default
settings.
Another thing to consider is that your PNG file viewer may be flawed.
Unfortunately, many are, as they are ignoring PNG files' embedded gamma
information.

Sorry, I did not know about the #version directive, so it's not there. Would
this solve the issue?
I viewed both images of the same scene file side by side in my viewer (XnView)
and the difference is there..

Sorry, I did not know about the #version directive. Would adding this resolve
the issue?
AS to my viewer (XnView), I looked at the images of the same scene file, one out
of 3.6, and the other out of 3.7 side by side..
