Ok, here we have an image that has been rendered by After Effects with
field rendering on with even fields are dominant. This is the format used by
all software and *digital* hardware that deal with interlaced footage. The
analog signal itself when transmitted from a station is different, it is the
same as POV-Ray output, half image of alternating field each time. My point
is that povray should be modified to support the digital standard and maybe
keep the analog standard there to amuse ourselves with from time to time.

Well, this is as simple as taking two successive frames
rendered by POV and combining them into a single image.
You don't need POV to do that.

Perhaps.

But it's an extra pass that is not needed when using other 3d software.
And especially for animations, I could see where the file management
itself would start to get quite annoying.

I'll check and post a little more on p.b-t

Here's what the preview output looks like under X11. It's pretty much what
it would be nice to have the files themselves look.

Well, initial discussion was wether actual implementation
is buggy or not. I think we all now agree that it is not,
but could be improved to match the quality of other packages.

I'm afraid however that this is now more a feature request
than a bug report...
