A big speed up is possible by

I. scaling the clouds to fit the picture frame as closely as possible

2. Using a box instead of a plane e.g.

 box{<-10000,-0.0000001,-1000><100000,0.0,10000>

Note the y values they are critical

Mick

It is also important to end the clouds at the horizon!

To give some idea of the speed gain... My mountain tarn pic with grass and
flowers took 19 hrs to do 2/3 of the pic. With the changes it took 45 mins
to get to the same point!

Is it possible to leave the y of the first corner at 0 and still receive the
same benefits?

No!

Povray reads the object as infinate if both y co-ordinates are 0

making one slightly different makes it a finite and faster rendering object.

The values as given are the absolute maximum values as otherwise strange
things happen.

And Jaime's clouds would be found where?

Should be an example of use in p.t.s-f. I think. Stsky.pov it's called,
dating back a few months.

http://www.ctav.es/jaime/index.htm is the web page containing those clouds
and source, among other things.
