Um yes, but if I've only a small amount of shopping that results in a  
quick transaction then I am now following you out of the store. So I just  
bop you over the head, nick your wallet, and head to the nearest ATM.

That's not to mention the cloning devices that can be affixed to the front  
of readers etc.
