I was puzzled over their reason why Saxons used the staff. It was because  
swords were expensive, they'd been in common use pre-Norman. As for bows  
since 12xx every male adult had to own a bow and since 13xx had to  
practice with it.

But still if they know their chappes from their quillions who cares?
