  Probably for the exact same reason as the one for which one refers to
Windows 95 as Windows 95 and not as Windows 95 4.00.1111: it's shorter.
The Unix guys are worse: they refer to it as povray period (well, okay,
sometimes x-povray or s-povray, but no version number).  By the way, I
hereby express my gratitude to the POV-Team for having named it x-povray
and not xpovray, since it's the only program the name of which starts by
"x-", which allows me to type it in three keystrokes.  I love these
shells.
