Why? Because you do not understand them?

I hope we're not. English is certainly a good means to communicate
between countries, but noone ever sayed that povray.* should contain
only English messages. Well, you did, but who are you to say that? You
may be in an English-speaking country, but Roberto is Spanish. His
news server is probably in Spain, so the natural language for him is
Spanish. I currently work in Japan, but my news server is at home (in
France), and I would most surely reply to any question in French (I'd
at least try). As for Spanish messages (which you can understand the
gross meaning without difficulty even without having studied that
language) or German ones (same remark) or Czech or Turkish ones, I
just ignore the ones I do not understand and nobody cares.

There is a newsgroup hierarchy for French-speaking groups,
fr.*. There, you could be flamed for posting in English. I guess there
is another hierarchy for English-speaking groups (if not, there should
be). This is a general hierarchy, and I do not remember that rules
have been posted about povray.* (and I saw the groups being created
live one morning, so I did not miss the beginning of the story). As
such, it is a free, international hierarchy. And remember that the
"universal language" does not exist, and if one had to be chosen it
would be French (just ask the UNO which one they speak).

Be tolerant with people you do not understand, they most probably
are *not* saying bad words to you...

Roland,
French student working in Japan. And learning Japanese.
