It is not possible to get rounded text with the text primitive, and the 
finish can not do anything to affect the geometry. If you want rounded 
text, your best bet is probably to find some mesh editor that can create 
text.
Alternatives would include modelling the text yourself with CSG or 
blobs, or using something like this macro:

It was written for MegaPOV, but can easily be updated for 3.5.
