In all cases the texture is an actual map of the planet. Visual
except for Venus (which uses a false-color radar altitude map).

Are you referring to the high iron content? I actually
forgot to mention that all glass marbles have a black
sphere embedded representing the iron core. This is
to scale but appears enlarged due to refraction.

In the case of mercury it leads to polished stone look
as the huge core prevents transparency and caustics. I'm
also not so happy with the moon. The latter is actually
quite transparent but due to its bland color appears
more like stone than glass anyway.
