Yes, I've heard that can be a real problem - a coworker of mine has an 
issue with a lost tooth (he plays hockey, imagine that - missing teeth 
<g>), and it would cost him about C$3000 (he's in Canada) to have a post 
put in to support an artificial tooth.

Ouch indeed.
