There! Got the drive and valve gear finished at last (the moving parts,
that is). Fully rigged for animation (it was actually easier to create
it this way than with static coordinates).
Used a patterned texture to check whether texture is properly moving
with the parts.
So why, for hell's bells sake, of all the many locomotive types to ever
roam the American continent did I happen to pick virtually the one and
only that did NOT use Walschaert valve gear, but "Southern" gear
instead?? Can you imagine what a pain it is to try find some close-up
images on the 'net? In the end I had to resort to some solid guessing. I
still can't tell whether I got the bellcrank right... ah well, in case I
got it wrong I guess I can file that under artistic license: It /could/
have been built this way.
