I started using Hash Animation Master back in 1998, which is probably most
similiar to blender of the software I have used. The bunny model is
something that I created some time ago in AM and transferred into blender,
so the month didn't include the time spent modelling.

The fur took a few days to setup, although now I could probably do it in a
day. I've watched about a dozen video tutorials and read much of the blender
wiki trying to learn the program. The armature and animation went very
quickly because of blender's advanced tools. I just made the bones,
positioned them inside the model and selected the mesh and the armature
together, hit control-P and set the armature as parent. It asks how you want
vertices to be assigned and chose the option having to do with heat and it
assigned the weights beautifully. I didn't made any adjustments to the
weights and it is nearly perfect except for the shoulder (notice how it
moves when I tried to make him wave).

The keyframing was slow at first but then I found that with the timeline
view you can hit record and it will record most keyframes automagically.
Blender can also do auto IK and you can turn it on and off which is a huge
help. Being able to move the keyframes around helps too, and these are all
things that AM can do but I think Blender may do it a little better and it
is much more stable. I haven't upgraded AM in about 6 years tho, so perhaps
it has improved.
