I'm pretty sure that the sight of automobiles made people uneasy in the
horse and buggy days too. I don't subscribe to the notion of "uncanny
valley" as an inherent perception issue, but believe it to be one that of
unfamiliarity. All it takes at most is one generation of living with
androids, however "uncanny" they may be to us, for nobody to give a second
thought to it. The phrase "... other members of his field were impressed
..." is telling in this respect; familiarity breeds acceptance. It's also
not fair to use the bombing of one movie to support the claim, as is
commonly made. Final Fantasy had a poor storyline, characterization. CG was
never its problem (well, except for the cost part).
