You'd have to know what New Movie Of The Week *is* first. ;-)

A better technique seems to be to just ask the person about themselves -
maybe that person isn't a film fanatic anyway?

I tried this. The person I was speaking to started laughing.

Hysterically.

Eventually she finished laughing her **** off, and politely declained.

I asked a different person by email. I couldn't help noticing that the
reply was written in very formal language, with strong undertones of
"please don't speak to me ever again".

I have tried and tried and tried to convince people to be friends with
me. So far, I have failed completely. What can I say? I guess people
just hate me...
