Well I'll confess it's not clear to me. When I render the following scene I
don't see anything that fits the description of "two overlapping networks of
cracks":
camera {location <0,0,-8> look_at 0 }
light_source {<-10,20,-50>, rgb 1}
plane {-z,0 pigment {crackle}}
Are you able to clarify what you mean?
