That's why the C++ rewrite is expected (along with multi-core support),
it would (hopefully) push code into a modular design that could help
things like the one you are suggesting.

If you can read french, have a try at http://jgrimbert.free.fr/crayon.pdf

Now, if you could define "function improvement" (what do you mean by it,
short of a hat of tricks to impress dumb people, exactly), that could
also help people to get involve in your discussion.

"improvement" is such a political empty word, I need real stuff, and I'm
probably not alone. So what are you thinking about ? New texture ? new
shape ? new colour system ? new ray/colour interaction ? other things ?

As an old timer, I remember a period which was full of patches
proposal... and the nightmare it was lead to the long line of mega-pov
(and variants!).

And if you are thinking of something else than 100% Code-Patch, just
forget it. Povray is source code, and portable.

P.S.: Blank/Empty lines are cheap, use them to make your text breaths.

P.S.2: ... (ellipsis) are a sign of unfinished thought (I know, I use
them a lot too), but why would you expect us to finish what you have not
found worth of finishing yourself. Don't be lazy when you want to push a
subject.
