Thanks for the suggestion. I started POV-Ray in compatibility mode for
Windows XP. I was able to switch VMWware virtual machine in fullscreen,
however after I maximized POV-Ray I wasn’t able.

Next, I started POV-Ray without using compatibility mode and tested
DirectDraw from DirectX Diagnostic Tool (dxdiag). It passed the test.
Then I maximized POV-Ray and ran the test again. This time it failed:

“DirectDraw test results: Failure at step 17 (SetDisplayMode to
640x480x16): HRESULT = 0x80004001 (Not implemented)”

I started POV-Ray again and after that I was able to start DOS-Box in
fullscreen. However after I maximized the POV-Ray window (it wasn’t
maximized) I wasn’t able. After this I restored the POV-Ray window and
tried to run DOS-Box again but it refused to switch to fullscreen.

I think that I don’t have hallucinations...

Any ideas what’s the reason for this?

The video card is ATI Radeon 9600 and it seems to work fine.

Thank you,
Maxime
