I suffer from this bug, and it seems that many other do too:

  The thing is, this bug has been known for well over a year and it has
persisted from driver to driver without being fixed. And it seems ATI
refuses to even aknowledge the problem. Look here:

  It's the list of known issues in the linux driver. This problem is not
mentioned, and has never been mentioned in any version of the driver, even
though it has been known for well over a year and many people have complained
about it. As you can see, other problems are aknowledged, but not this one.
