Have to agree with you there. We don't really get "pubs" round here, but
some bars are ok that do pretty decent food. More often though I'll just
stay at home now and drink there with my gf and sometimes other friends too.
Added bonus is that the identical drinks are about 5x cheaper in the
supermarket compared to at the bar.

Hehe, during Oktoberfest I'd had 2 litres of (strong) beer by about 1pm,
then I went home :-) I think the most beer I have drunk recently was 4.5
litres (at Oktoberfest '06), then I really did have to go home and had the
room spinning etc etc. Not very nice... But I think other people had drunk
more as there were plenty just lying about on the grass and generally
looking far worse than I felt.
I find that often it's only once you get home and finally relax that you
realise how drunk you are. While you're out with people and it's noisy and
you're drinking and chatting you really don't notice, well not until it's
too late...
