Both are realistic and beleivable.
The first is more like our eyes compensate for the contrast.
The second is more like a photograph where you underexpose everything in order
to have the brightest parts a correct exposition.
To increase the realism, you may need to increase the light's intensity, as well
as the brightness of the outside "worls".
