I put my phone into flight mode for over a week when I was in the States
for a conference recently, because I didn't want to use it for anything
other than an alarm clock. It was switched on for the entire time, and
the battery level only went down by about 10-15%.
This seems to indicate that even on standby, a cellphone uses a
considerable amount of power simply staying in contact with the network.
I reckon if I only connected it to the network to make calls, the
battery could last up to a month.
I'm not sure bluetooth makes that much difference, because it's not
nearly as active.
