Well I've used Wings3D a few times, but I have no idea how to model detailed 
organic shapes. I can't even make good looking cars or spaceships, I tend to 
have more luck with CSG (which is why my wings models seldom appear in my 
pov work!).

I've heard of whippets... though I didn't actually know how they look 
different to greyhounds!
