Actually it wasn't supposed to be glowing.
I created the shape and set pigment=rgbt 1, and the whole object
vanished. So I set ior=1.5, and only the curved parts were visible. So I
set specular=0.8, and... this happened. It seems the light is purely due
to total internal reflection. (You're looking at the glass edge-on, but
it's actually quite thick.) I used photos, which colour the shadows
slightly too, further enhancing the "glowing" effect.
My original plan was to make the lambda deep blue, and the background
look like copper. But when I did that, the colours clash horribly...
Also green doesn't work well. I'm sure I'll figure something out!
