That really explains why if the quadric is replaced with:
cylinder{ < 0, -5, 0>, < 0, 5, 0>, 1/2 }
there is no problem.
Thanks for your deep insights. I think that it is a responsibility of
the POV-Ray developers to figure out their bugs. I wasted enough time.
