Hmm.. ~3-4 hours to render 10 seconds of 30fps video.
Lets see photons... photons... photons...:

Just the blob had the photons block, reflection & refraction on (like 
the reflection ones had ANYTHING to do with the scene...) and a single 
light source.

That was all. The computer its running on is nothing spectacular this 
day and age: Pentium 4(ht) 2.8ghz.
