Yes the idea is better hinted at than beaten to death.

When I posted the first one there was like 50 more days in the countdown 
and there was one thing I knew immediately, I wasn't about to do 50 more 
of the damned things!

But it is a wonderful chance to play.  Those last two examples, for 
instance, were rendered entirely with zero diffuse and ambient.  Always 
wanted to play with that, never quite got around to it.
