IMHO it would be better to first improve the TIFF support in Povray (wich is
VERY basic at the moment (at least in 3.5, don't know if that changed in 3.6)),
wich also supports floating point pixel data.
I don't really see the necessity of a new format if the same results can
be achieved with an well established one, with better compatibility.
Unless it is for some reason much easier to implement. (I tried to improve
TIFF support in Povray, but gave up because libTiff/its documentation
IMHO is really crappy, but I don't know if thats better with OpenExr)
