I have a ~/.povrayrc file with settings like these:

Output_to_File=true
Output_File_Type=N8
Quality=9
Antialias=true
Antialias_threshold=0.3
Antialias_Depth=2
Sampling_Method=2
Jitter=false
Jitter_Amount=1.0
