On my shelf I've got a lump of rock that actually looks like this - it's
transparent purple with "clouds" of opaque white (quartz?). Anyway, this
little image was done using POV-Ray's media feature. (gee, ya think?!) The
background is nasty, but I was trying to get the marble to look reflective.
(As I posted before, it's easy to make something reflect, much harder to
make it *look* like it's reflecting!) You can't really tell from this still,
but the media gives a great sense of depth. (Actually the "transparent" bit
is absorbing media, so it does have depth attenuation.) The image is
actually a frame from an animation. I'd post that, but it's 8MB!! <8-0 (I
suppose if I scale it to a lower resolution it might come out smaller...)
The animation shows off the depth effect better...
