  Try modifying #default { finish { diffuse ... } } and
global_settings { radiosity { brightness ... } } until you find
a good combination which gives you the best brigthness for illuminated
and shadowed parts.
  (Note that making radiosity brightness too large will give you rather
unrealistic lighting, so don't raise it too much.)
