For what it's worth, SAS, the famous statistical package, is referenced in
peer-reviewed papers the following way :

SAS Institute, 1988. SAS/STAT User's Guide. SAS Institute Inc., Cary, NC

So POV-Ray could be referenced as follows :

POV-Team, 2002. Persistence of Vision (TM) Ray Tracer. POV-Team,
Williamston, Australia.
