  There is a surprisingly HUGE amount of people out there, to whom
internet=WWW, nothing more, nothing less. They have never heard of
anything else than WWW, and they think that WWW is the only thing there is.
They are completely unaware of the existence of other programs which can be
used to operate and communicate in the internet (even if they hear/read
something about, for example, SSH, IRC, news, etc, they either don't know
what people are talking about, or they just think it's something related
to WWW). Although they receive and send email, they don't realize that
it's something different from WWW.
  I personally know one of these people (for some reason I have only one
friend like this; all my other friends know computers and the internet
quite well...), but I have never seen the trouble in explaining that there's
more.

  The language of these people can be hilarious sometimes. For example
when they say "start the internet" they actually mean "start the web browser"
(usually IE).
