Jonathan,
A candle flame in daylight should not be very visible, but I guess it would
depend on the ambient light levels in the scene. 12 Noon, would make the
flame nearly invisible. What I would suggest is for you to post a small
sample image of each in "povray.binaries.images"  And ask for feed back on
the realism of the flame with the image next to each other.
