  I have never rendered anything very big since I haven't had any use for
a big image. Perhaps some time in the future.

  It depends.
  If I'm making a still for posting to p.b.i, then I usually use 512x384,
some times (although more rarely) 640x480.
  If I'm making a final image (for example for my images page) I usually
use 800x600, some times 640x480. In just a few cases 1024x768.
