I'm afraid it's not universal. In fact, each
standalone DVD player has a different set of capability
(Medias supported (DVD is mandatory, CDR, CDR-W or DVD-R are all optional),
Some are able to read MP3 CD-store,
Support of either VCD, S-VCD, X-VCD or mini-DVD is also optionnal)
Just search the net on the subject!
