I think that in most modern PCs there's some kind of thermometer and you
can set BIOS to show an alarm if the CPU gets too hot (and shut down the
computer if it gets dangerously hot). You can also see the temperature of
the CPU in the proper BIOS screen.
This at least in my PC.
