Misconception: With povray 3.1g, you can make your own spotlight form
scratch. All you need is a light source located at the focus of a parabolic
mirror.

When I first got CorelDream3D, and perhaps also later with pov, I cursed the
coders that I couldn't get this to work. With CD3D, I spent probably a dozen
hours trying to get this to work.  The problem, of course, is that I didn't
understand the basest concept of how a raytracer worked: I insisted that
reflective surfaces should reflect lights!   This will work to some degree,
perhaps, with photons in  MegaPov. But the new user might not understand this
concept.
