For those of you who may need a way to get intermittent (sparse) scattered
data into a fully gridded format you might wish to look at the USGS package
at the following location.

http://greenwood.cr.usgs.gov/pub/fact-sheets/fs-0076-95/FS076-95.html

This is a very extensive set of Geophysical programs all running under DOS.
Warning the compressed package is about 9 mb. to download.

Lots of good stuff ,among which is MINC a minimum curvature gridding
program. I used this in the original raw Fortran format about 15 years ago
and it still appears to be the only freely distributed package that will do
the job.

Input x,y,,z data can be either binary or ASCII and the package has several
display and conversion routines for the output files.

David
