  The answer: MegaPov, the unofficial collection of povray patches, is a kind
of testbed for the new features. Povray 3.5 will mainly contain features from
it (probably most of them). MegaPov is an excellent project for testing the
new features.
  AFAIK Povray 3.5 will be released in the near future (most probably early
this year).

  Although I speak as a member of the TAG, I don't speak for the POV-Team.
I don't know their exact plans.
