Well, 97 MB is quite a lot. I believe that there are possibilities to
reduce mesh sizes with little work in Rhino, especially if the Rhino
file is only 1 MB. One possibility is to rebuild surfaces in Rhino, it
will help often.
Additional possibilities to reduce geometry is splitting objects before
meshing: meshing each surface separately will result often in smaller
mesh size.
I saw you in the Rhino NG, perhaps if the scene is not a "secret", You
can post your scene to the Rhino's NG and ask for possible enhancements
with scene geometry.

And if scene contains number of similar objects, then it would be better
to export only one of them and create copies of it in POV-Ray, which
will result in smaller memory requirements as well. This requires manual
work, but it will be worth of it...
