It is very likely that this is no POV-Ray core code error. It is most likely
related to some 68K Mac specific problem which is very hard to debug for us
because 68K Mac are out of production for nearly five years now and we don't
have a (running for development and debugging) 68K Mac anymore.  This is
also one of the reasons why future official POV-Ray version will no longer
support 68K Macs - it causes much more work to support something you don't
have direct access to at all (in fact it is nearly impossible) and because
there are very few users of the 68K version still out there it makes no
sense to delay lots of features to support it.

PS: My *personal* suggestion for 68K users would be to get an iMac. It is
easily a hundret times faster rendering and all (new) applications only
support PowerMacs.  However, I know that computers cost money, especially
Macs :-)
