It depends on what you need to do.  If you just need to do mechanical
animation then you could probably do it with POV.

If you're looking to do character animation, I recommend Animation
Master.  It costs around $200 and is designed specifically for
animation.  The homepage is www.hash.com.

You could even render scenes in POV and then composite them into Hash.
